Allllright! It’s that time again.
Good news: The nasty little bugs I was (sort of) complaining about last week all died like they were supposed to! Now we can tract and not be attacked by the little pests!
So the past week has been good! Last Monday night at FHE, we ended up watching the Joseph Smith movie. I love that movie! There were a couple of quotes that I loved from it. The first was “Sometimes the Lord brings us low before He can lift us higher.” I think that’s so true. The Lord has to humble us so that we will be willing to listen to His guidance and rely on His strength and then He will make us better people than we could’ve made ourselves.
So I’ve been learning about myself as I’ve been out here in Cleveland. First of all, I realized Tuesday that I lack faith. Isn’t that sad?! I didn’t realize that I was…but I have been. I haven’t trusted the promise that Heavenly Father has given that as I open my mouth, it will be given me what to say and that my mouth will be filled. I intend to make this weakness a strength from here on out. But, I’ve also learned that I have to be patient with myself.
The miracle of the day was that I got a little package from my love Natalie Maxwell. In her letter, she randomly put in this quote from Elder Uchtdorf: “[I learned that] patience was far more than simply waiting for something to happen- patience required actively working toward worthwhile goals and not getting discouraged when results didn’t appear instantly or without effort.” That was exactly what I needed to hear. I’ve got to remember to take baby steps in doing new things, and I can’t necessarily expect results instantaneously. It’s neat what a mission teaches you about yourself.
Okay! Exciting exciting times. On Thursday, first of all, I hit my 3 month mark! Crazy. That’s 1/6 of my mission…done. It’s gone by so fast!! But more importantly, we were able to see Joyce on Thursday! We knew that we needed to be bold with her and tell her straight up that we want to teach her and her family. So we went in to the store and just visited with her…and she was telling us how everything in her life is pointing her to Utah right now. To name a few things….
1)Stephanie Nielson’s blog…she lives in Provo.
2) The new fabric company that Joyce is ordering fabric from is headquartered in Sandy, Utah.
3) She heard a song on the Mormon Message about Stephanie Nielson, looked up the artist and went to Best Buy to get it. Best Buy didn’t have it but they looked up the girl for her. Turns out it was an artist who’s Utah-based….Mindy Gledhill, who sings on like every EFY cd ever.
4) Joyce was taking bolts of fabric out to this lady’s car with her and after 2 times going from the store to the car, she noticed this big pen on the ground. So, she picks up the pen (which she swears hadn’t been there before) and it’s a pen from SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH. Hahahahaha And to top it all off, as she’s telling us this, Sister Stacey, a member of the RS Presidency in our ward, walks in. And we’re like, “oh, she goes to our church!” and Joyce is like “Of course she does!!!” Haha.
Oh, also, earlier in the week, Sister Messegee invited Joyce to watch the RS Broadcast at her home on Saturday night. So we were able to tell Joyce a little more about it, with Sister Stacey’s input too, and we (and when I say we I mean Sister Park) flat out told her that we know that the message that we’re sharing can bless her family even more than they already are and that it’s so important and we want to share it with her!!! And so she said she’d come to the Broadcast!!! We were on a high after we left her shop. She was the miracle of the day.
Okay….Saturday, we went to the baptism of Ken, one of the Euclid elders’ investigators because they asked Sister Park to sing at it. It was really good but sad because there were 5 members of the ward there and 11 missionaries. LISTEN TO ME: When converts get baptized, GO SUPPORT THEM! GO TO THEIR BAPTISMS! It’s so sad that the missionaries more than doubled the ward attendance.

But miracle of the day: GENERAL RELIEF SOCIETY BROADCAST! Well, Sarah Ely was sick and Joyce couldn’t leave her at home by herself so she wasn’t able to come to the Messegees BUT Sister Messegee told her how to watch it on the internet and Joyce was excited to do so. It was neat to watch the broadcast from the perspective of an investigator. Sister Allred’s talk was completely directed to Joyce Ely. It was SOOOOOOOO good! We were praying out hearts out that she was watching it. And then…President Monson’s talk on charity? UNREAL. UNBELIEVABLE!
I’ve never heard a better talk. It was fantastic! I loved how he said that “charity is the opposite of criticism and judging”. It is accepting people as they really are, and resisting the impulse to categorize others. When you listen to him speak, you just KNOW that he truly is a prophet of God.
You know what’s weird? I completely remember one year ago….because last year, the Relief Society broadcast was on the day of a home football game and I was bummed because I felt like I should go to it since I was in the RS presidency but I didn’t want to miss the football game. So I remember wearing a blue and white striped dress and leaving early and walking with Natalie over to the chapel by the married housing. Ha! That doesn’t seem like long ago at all…..but it was a year! That’s how fast my mission’s going to go by…AHHHHHHHHHHH! Basically, it’s just so weird to me how time passes.
Afterwards we called Joyce and left a message asking if she was able to watch it, what she thought about it and inviting her to church. Well……..she didn’t come to church yesterday! Boooooo these people break your heart sometimes. But Kia was there, for the first time in a while, and that warmed my soul! I love that girl. We had to leave church a few minutes early to get to Kirtland by 12:30, where we were for the rest of the day. I feel so blessed to be able to serve there! Sometimes some of the sisters complain about phones and doing tours, but it’s such a sacred place. I love it and I would never trade that experience for the world.
But, I got to meet a couple of the full-proselyting sisters in the mission this week and I do hope that sometime on my mission I get sent out full-pros. I just think it would be really neat to be able to dedicate all of your time to your area.
Also, I have another friend my freshman year at BYU coming out here! She just went into the MTC last week and she’s a full-pros sister so I won’t see her much but it’s still neat to think she’ll be here! Her name is Sister Bennett and we were in the same French class. Oh speaking of French, yesterday this big bus tour came into Kirtland. They split it into 4 different tours. They were on a church history trip and they were older people and it was so awesome because they appreciated the sacredness of Kirtland they were prepared to be there! But, I got to meet some of the people in the group that Sister McAlister had taken and they were from Belgium and they spoke French. And then Sister McAlister’s like, Oh Sister Webb speaks French!! So then I was put on the spot and I was like AHHHHHHHHH I haven’t taken French in 2 years! So I talked with them for a minute and then I was like “Okay don’t judge me!!! But…my French isn’t very good now!” But the man said that I was welcome in their country anytime! Ha. Good to know.
Anyway, I think that’s most of what happened this past week. Everything’s going pretty good! There’s only 2.5 weeks left in the transfer. Sister Park thinks she’s out after this one…so we’ll have to see. I don’t really know yet.
Oh a couple more things actually… it was cool…I was reading in the D&C this week and found a scripture specifically for me. It’s in section 39, verse 14. It says, “Behold, verily, verily, I say unto thee, thou art not called to go into the eastern countries but thou are called to go to the Ohio.” And here I am! And I know there’s a reason.
But also, I found my mission scripture this week. It’s D&C 68:3.
“Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come.”
That’s what’s up! I was to “the Ohio” to testify that Jesus Christ is in fact the Son of God and the Savior of the world, that He did restore His church in its fullness to the earth through the prophet Joseph Smith, and that the Book of Mormon is tangible evidence of that and a second witness of Jesus Christ.
I love my mission! I love the experiences that I’m having. I love the things that I’m learning about myself and about the Lord. There is nothing I could’ve ever done that would benefit me more in life than this.
God loves you, and so do I!
SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH LOVE,
Sister Webb
P.S. Stacha Hardy, I know that you are reading this because you sent me that awesome postcard that made my day this week! Now, you should me another one and include your address so that I can write you a little note!
| I asked Sis. Park to take a pic of me in my awesome new BYU shirt and this is what I got. Stupid little Ute fan! Ha. Jk. |
| Just because I'm not in Provo, doesn't mean I don't love and support my Cougars! |
