apparently eggs grow on trees.....
It’s P-day again. Hooray! We’ve had a long but good week. Last Tuesday was awesome. We were in Kirtland. I LOVE KIRTLAND!! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to serve there. It is such a special place where hearts are touched by the overwhelming influence of the Spirit.
Last week, Sister McAlister and I got to take 3 new interns from the Community of Christ on tour, along with Ron & Ann Romig, the director of the Comm of Christ VC. It was really good. Ann was really touched and told Sister McAlister as we were walking back that “she really felt something here today”. It was very neat to see that we were teaching by the Spirit.
On Wednesday, we had a zone development meeting (ZDM). It is seriously SO WEIRD being in a zone with ALL elders!! Ha I know that’s how normal missions are but not when you serve in the Kirtland zone. Strangeee, but good. We talked a lot about vision and about know, do, be. We can know something, we can do something or we can be something…. But to be is definite and is unchangeable.
We talked about how Christ is called the great I Am. He is defined not by what He does or what He knows but BY WHO HE IS. It reminded me of a quote from Elder Eyring’s talk from a couple conferences ago called “Act in All Diligence.” I’ve changed it around to make it about missionary not and not about priesthood service but here it is: “[Missionary work] is more than a trust to do what the Lord would do. It is an invitation to become as He is.”
I’ve kind of been focusing on this lately. I’m making a conscious effort to become more like He is by studying a specific Christlike attribute each week. This week I’m focusing on humility. Elder Uchtdorf said in one of his talks that basically being humble isn’t thinking less OF yourself but thinking less ABOUT yourself. That’s what I’m working on this week.
People in Ravenna are super nice. The majority of them are SO friendly. They just spill their life story to you on like the first meeting. It’s crazy! I love it though. I know that if I hadn’t come on a mission I would have missed on out so many priceless experiences. I wouldn’t have stepped MAJORLY outside my comfort zone and stretched myself more than I thought possible. Yesterday I spoke in sacrament meeting on why my mission has changed my life and what I’ve learned from my mission. Wow. I could speak for a day on that subject. Seriously though!
So many things I’ve learned: how to love, how to endure, how to trust Heavenly Father, how to study, how to receive revelation, why agency is so important, that miracles truly do happen, that God is SO aware of each of His children, that I am SO blessed to have the gospel in my life. My perspective has changed forever.
One thing that I’ve noticed over and over again on my mission is the importance of disconnecting from the world and being still. It is in those moments that revelation flows and promptings can be felt. I’m grateful that I don’t get on facebook and that I don’t have a cell phone of my own. I can FOCUS without distraction! For me, that was kind of unheard of until my mission.
So I guess I’ll leave you with an invitation this week to turn off your phone, your iPod, the TV and study the scriptures for 10 minutes a day this week. That’s not much at all. That’s 110 less minutes a day than I do. Ha! I know that the questions that you have in your hearts will be answered and you will find clarity and peace. I certainly have. I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU ALL!

P.S. Random fact: eggs grow on trees & bushes in Ohio! (I’ll attach a pic so you can see). Also, lawn art is VERY popular. It’s a bit on the odd side if you ask me but no one did.
