(Alicia did not send any pictures this week so I decided to add a few family pictures we had taken in June (by the AMAZING Caiti Leiataua) before Alicia left)
It was a pretty good week I must say. We met almost all of our goals! I love that feeling.
So pretty much…Mantima Bost is SOLID! I told you briefly about her last week. Let me give you some more background on her.
She is 32 years old. She has 4 kids with 4 different “baby daddies” as she likes to call them- Sierra (13), Daman (12), Chyann (6), and Tyrone (3). She lives with her boyfriend Reggie. She says she was raised “by the streets”. She smokes cigarettes, she cusses like no other, she has smoked weed and drank lots and lots of alcohol. But she tells us her body is tired. She wants to quit smoking and she wants to come closer to God. She was born Muslim but feels that she has a different path in life. She’s fiercely independent. Thank heavens for that because her downstairs neighbor likes to tell her that Mormons aren’t Christian and blah blah blah. But she will make up her own mind. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER WITH EVERY OUNCE OF LOVE THAT I HAVE TO OFFER. She is awesome!!
We went over there 4 times this week and guess what….she definitely has a BAPTISMAL DATE OF JANUARY 1ST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay yay yay yay yayy!!! That is the first baptismal date I’ve ever had, with the exception of Kia….and I don’t think she really counts on this subject because she’s had like a million.
Also, Mantima’s sister Wakeelah and her boyfriend Kindu were over at her house this weekend and we taught them some…and they came to church on Sunday!! The crazy thing was that Sister Law & I had to leave right after sacrament meeting because we went to Kirtland with the YW to teach them in the School of the Prophets. So we basically just handed off Wakeelah & Kindu to the Messegees and other people and prayed that all would go well. It did! We were told that she took lots of notes and they got her a Gospel Principles book and a True to the Faith. Nice. Mantima didn’t come this week because she let the other 2 come…we had to get them a ride and there was no more room in the car and they decided they wanted to come on Sunday morning. But we went over and saw Mantima after church and she was jealous that Wakeelah got a GP book so we gave her one too. Oh, and she wants a True to the Faith and a QUAD. Yep, a quad. No worries.
Seriously, she’s had like the roughest background but it’s crazy how it’s prepared her to hear and accept the gospel of Jesus Christ.
That was the most exciting news for the week. This week is Thanksgiving! Yayyy!! Tomorrow we are singing in the Kirtland Temple at a service the Community of Christ is having. I love being in the temple! It should be pretty neat. We have 2 hours today to email and grocery shop and then we are working the rest of the day and Thursday will be a full-day p-day. We are having a lunch at sites from 1-3 and then we will go over to the Messegees house to spend our evening. They are awesome! I love that family so much. We are going to be crafty with Sister Messegee. It should be fun.
I am so thankful to have this opportunity to be on a mission. I am so thankful that I have a loving family and amazing friends that are so supportive and that are constantly praying for me and supporting me. I could not do this without you! I am eternally grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ, and for his infinite and eternal sacrifice in my behalf. I love Him and I feel privileged to be His representative for another 13 months.
Have an awesome Thanksgiving and know that I love you all!
