"It's December in our town..."

Once upon a time when I was in third grade, we had a play and my class sang that song that is the title of this week's entry. The end.

Okay not the end. This week was different. Let me tell you all about it....

So Monday night we ate with some members and we ate salmon. That was the 2nd time that I had had salmon in my life. Both of those times have been on my mission so I'm not really too familiar with fish. I really enjoyed the salmon I had the first time but this time it tasted like I was eating a river. It wasn't the best. So Monday night, I was like man my stomach is hurting....I'll go to bed a little early but I couldn't fall asleep. My stomach really did not appreciate that fishy rivery salmon so at about 12:30 I started throwing it up....and then Sister Law decided to join in the get-rid-of-nasty-salmon fest at about 2:30. And then we took turns at the toilet and we laid in our beds being miserable for the rest of the night until the alarm went off at 6:15

. We were both EXHAUSTED but here was the thing. We knew we needed priesthood blessings. I could only think of one man in the ward who lives close to us who might be able to come to our apartment to give us blessings....everyone else in the ward lives down at the other end of the ward boundaries. BUT I knew that we had district meeting at 8:00 and so there would be plenty of priesthood holders in Kirtland. Also, we were supposed to be working sites all that day anyway so we made our motto "Let's get to Kirtland! Let's get to Kirtland!"

It was SO hard to get ready. We had no energy. I just laid on floor for a little bit and then made myself get stuff ready. Sister Law was NOT moving so I prayed really REALLY hard for the strength to just be able to get her and my stuff together and drive us to Kirtland. I really don't think I was fit for driving but I did and we got there alright. Thank heavens there was priesthood in Kirtland and they were able to give us blessings. I loved the way the blessing ended. It said: "The Lord will support you and He is supporting you now. Remember that." Isn't that cool? Sometimes it's just nice to hear that straight from the Lord Himself.

Anyway, then everyone was like "Go home now!" But I did not have the energy to drive us all the back to Lyndhurst plus we were going to be sleeping over at the Boynton that night anyway because we'd be at sites Wednesday morning and we needed to save miles. So we made it to the Boynton. Then, I called the Butterfields and asked them to bring us some powerade because we didn't have any and we needed electrolytes according to the nursing major sisters. So, Elder Butterfield comes to bring it to us and I answer the door and he goes "Sister Webb, you look like death warmed over!" Gee thanks!! It was kind of funny. Then basically Sister Law and I crashed and slept all day at the Boynton.

We decided to muster up all of our energy and go to the Thanksgiving service in the Kirtland temple and it was good that we did. It was neat to be there and sing. I sang Because I Have Been Given Much to end the meeting with Sister Park, Sister Debenham, Sister Maughan, and Sister Decker. Can I just say we sounded really good? Well, we did.

Me, Sister Maughan and Sister Houston.
Sister Houston has been out full proselyting since I got to Kirtland.
She's finally back!
On Wednesday, we were at sites half the day and in our area the last half. We took a family on tour though and guess what. The lady was from Mesquite, NV! No kidding. Her name was Tami Olsen Klomp, but her mom was a Hughes! So we figured we must be related and it was driving her crazy to know how, so she called her mom- Gwen Hughes. Her mom was like "Oh, she must be related to Tonya then!" I was like, "Whoa, Tonya's my grandma!" and then she asked who my parents were and I said and she's like "I know Scott Webb!" Oh dear....what a small Mormon world we live it.

It was funny. I took a picture with them but it's kind of gross so I may not send it. We'll see. But Sister Law and I were still really tired and pretty weak from having eating 4 pieces of toast the day before so we taught one lesson but then came home and made Thanksgiving cards for our investigators to drop off the next day.

She is from Highland Village over by Flower Mound.

Me and Sister Law
Thursday was THANKSGIVING! I love that day. It was a good one. We got up and weekly planned first. We were supposed to have a turkey bowl but it was dreary and wet and rainy and gross so instead they opted to just have us play games in the stake center. So we played knock-out a couple of times and then we played ChushWozni which was way fun, as always. Then we had a beautiful and delicious lunch with all of the sisters and senior couples at sites. As we had our food and sat there eating and enjoying one another's company, I seriously kept thinking "what did I do in my life to deserve to be able to serve my mission here?!" FACT: I am actually in the BEST MISSION IN THE WORLD. It's kind of ridiculous.

Anyway, after lunch with the sisters, we headed out to our area. We stopped and dropped off our Thanksgiving cards with a few of our investigators and then we went over to the Messegees. They are so good to us! They fed us another Thanksgiving dinner. It was hard to eat everything because after the whole food poisoning incident, my stomach definitely shrunk and so I was still full from lunch a couple hours later when we started eating dinner. But it was good! The food was delicious and the company was lovely.

Me and Ammon Messegee! ha. I don't think I've told you about him. He's got a small crush on me! One day when Sister Park and I were coming over, Sister Park was like "Hey Ammon!" and he said, "I want Sister Webb!" and then proceeded to hold onto my leg as I attempted to walk up stairs. Awesome. Haha and then when Sister Law first came in, he referred to her as Sister Webb's friend. He's 4 and autistic and great. I love him!

Our place holders at the Messegees.  The leaves had our names written on them!
We got to hear Brother Messegee's crazy conversion story that involved lots of details of how he and his sister & brother-in-law almost died on Mount Rainier when they got stuck in a horrible storm for 4 days on top of the mountain they'd climbed. Crazy huh? Overall: It was an awesome Thanksgiving day. I am thankful for so many things and pretty much they all tie back to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

So Thursday, we got our new schedule for sites and they changed our days around...argh! We now have all day Wednesday and all day Saturday at sites. So, that meant we had to plan for area time on Friday.

Friday was FREEZING! We were able to teach quite a few lessons and visit with a few people. We were able to meet one less-active lady, who I had believed to be DEAD because that's what Sister Park & I heard....well, she's definitely still alive and kickin'. AND SHE'S HILARIOUS! Her name is Charlotte McCornell. She's like "Hunny, please! You think this is COLD! Mmmm girl please! This ain't nothin'!" (It was. It was actually something. Something like 32 degrees with a moderate breeze aka IT WAS FREEZING!) but she was hilarious.

Then we went with the Russells and Kia to the open of the nativities at Kirtland. There are so many beautiful nativities and they turned on all the Christmas lights and it's GORGEOUS! I love love love Christmas in Kirtland.

We were at sites all day on Saturday. Nothing too terribly exciting happened but Saturday night, oh my. I had the most HEARTBREAKING conversation of my life with our investigator Daryl Nelson. He told us that talked to his wife and she accused him of fooling around with us. He was like "Doesn't that piss you off?!" But it doesn't. It makes me really, really sad because she honestly does not understand what we're all about.

He just started SOBBING on the phone then and he was like 'It hurts! Ughhh why does it hurt? I'm just trying to do what's right and it's so hard." I was able to bear my testimony on the atonement. I told him that if he came to church in the morning he would be able to find some of the peace he was looking for. I asked if we got him a ride if he would come and he said, "Yes. Please get me a ride out of this hell that I live in." Okay, heart literally broken. I was almost in tears myself at this point of the conversation. He is the nicest, most tender man and he NEEDS the gospel so badly!

Anyway, let me tell you how much my heart was broken AGAIN when he did not show up to church with the ride that we got him the next morning. Apparently his brother in law's car broke down and he was sent to go get him or go fix it or something. ARGH. Satan, leave my investigators the heck alone!!!!

Yesterday, Sister Law and I were able to take this awesome couple out on tour. They were so ready to be in Kirtland and they loved Kirtland because their daughter had received her confirmation that she needed to serve a mission when she was in the School of the Prophets 15 years ago. It was neat because Kirtland obviously held a special place in their hearts and it clearly has a special place in mine.

So that was pretty much the week. This morning we taught seminary so we were up earlier than usual. I think that might require a nap later on today. :)

Oh...one last thing. I'm going to give you my Christmas wish list. From my friends, all I want is for you to send me a copy of your favorite church talk or your favorite quote. Since I've been out, I realize I should've brought more....so you could help me out :) Mom & Dad, there's a few material items that I'm going to ask for from you....mostly handwarmers and scarves and earmuffs and thick headbands that cover your ears and wool tights and Winter Candy Apple body cream from Bath and Body Works. That's my favorite scent and it only comes out at Christmas so I've got to stock up!! Okay and anyone really: please feel free to send me any cd mix of hymns....by any artist! When you can only listen to hymns, your selection is rather limited and sooo the more I have the better! Thank you thank you thank yoooooouuuuuuuuu!

Okay that's it, I think. Yeah. That's it. I love you all! I can't believe it's already December! This transfer is going to fly by because it's Christmas and New Years' and it's going to be here in no time at all. Catch the spirit of the season and share it with those around you!
All my love,

Sister Webb
